Bobbie: If people want to call and ask questions, or email me, I’ll shout it from the rooftops. These folks were great!
I am Bobbie from The Wood Connection. We build custom cabinetry for the South Bay area, and have been in business for 25 years. About a year ago, we had a fire at our shop. The fire started on Friday afternoon. We were all here. Everybody got out safely, ended up with eight fire engines on our street. Our guys just all sat outside and look a lot of them had worked for me for over 20 years so this is a family. We left at about 6 o’clock.
We needed to come in the next day to see exactly what was going on, what happened. No electricity, so everything’s dark. We were sloshing through water and trying to see what might have been saved. What the fire didn’t get, the water from the fire department did get, so a lot of stuff was already starting to rust. Just… I mean, I know it’s machinery, but this is something that we’ve built over 25 years. I had now eight employees that couldn’t go back to work on Monday, so I’m now concerned about their families, and of course our clients whose cabinets burned up.
We were very fortunate in that Fire and Water Damage Recovery came to our rescue. The entire team throughout this process was compassionate. They were, oh boy, they were very respectful of everybody who was here. As far as the emotional rollercoaster I was going on, because I have no children so my business is my children, Maria’s team took so much burden off of me.
Besides cleaning up the horrific mess that was out there, it looked like a disaster zone, they also arranged to have the asbestos people come in and take care of that. They arranged for the storage units to get delivered so I didn’t have to do that. I could focus on contacting my clients to explain to them what had happened.
We needed to keep in business because we work for contractors and if I couldn’t be taking care of them, they would go find a different cabinet maker and they might not come back to me when we were at the fully ready, so with having Maria and her team handle things at our location, I could look for a temporary location I could get equipment in. I could be contacting other cabinet shops to use their major equipment while we waited for our equipment to come in. I felt like it was a whole team effort, everybody pulling in the same direction, “what can we do to help?”
Although I would never ever wish this upon anyone, that team would be the first people to come because you’re going to be taken care of!
